3 ways Russell Wilson trade could impact the Carolina Panthers
By Dean Jones
Russell Wilson’s bombshell trade to the Denver Broncos could have an impact on what the Carolina Panthers are going to do this offseason.
Two of the offseason’s biggest moves transpired within a few short hours of each other on Tuesday afternoon. Aaron Rodgers decided that his future lies with the Green Bay Packers following months of speculation and quarterback Russell Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos in a bombshell that sent shockwaves through the NFL.
Wilson has waived his no-trade clause to join Denver, who gave up multiple high-end picks and veteran pieces to the Seattle Seahawks in return. This could have an impact on the Carolina Panthers, who are looking for an upgrade of their own under center after Sam Darnold failed to produce the goods after his high-profile switch from the New York Jets.
Patience is wearing thin within Carolina’s fanbase, who are getting sick and tired of watching losing football. Team owner David Tepper might increase his own influence behind the scenes to pile additional pressure on those in power to make another bold splash to finally find a franchise signal-caller.
This is a precarious situation for the Panthers.
One that might not have been helped by the Wilson trade, in all honesty.
Wilson would make most teams around the league better even though he is heading into the twilight of his career. Here are three ways the Panthers could potentially be affected by one of the biggest trades in recent memory.
