3 ways Russell Wilson trade could impact the Carolina Panthers

Carolina Panthers could be priced out of a trade
The compensation agreed for Russell Wilson won’t have gone unnoticed by teams with a potential quarterback they’d be willing to trade for the right price. This could make it extremely difficult for the Carolina Panthers to get themselves an upgrade at the most important position on the field.
Wilson is among the league’s best when firing on all cylinders. And perhaps a change of scenery with some outstanding young playmakers could see him return to the form of old after an indifferent 2021 campaign.
Teams like the San Francisco 49ers, Houston Texans, or even the Minnesota Vikings will only increase their demands to part ways with a veteran piece if another team comes calling. Considering the Panthers have no Day 2 pick after trades for Sam Darnold and C.J. Henderson, they might actually end up being stuck with the USC product when it’s all said and done.
Of course, desperate teams do desperate things.
The urgency to win in 2022 cannot be understated where Carolina is concerned. If that means parting ways with multiple first-round picks and players for a quarterback that can move the needle, then so be it.
Wilson’s trade raised the stakes whether the Panthers like it or not. But the front office decision-makers would be wise not to overpay for someone that might not be able to take them where they want to go.
