3 ways Russell Wilson trade could impact the Carolina Panthers

Carolina Panthers could be forced to gamble on a free agent
With options in the trade market dwindling with every passing day and no quarterback prospect entering the league coming with Day 1 starting potential, the Carolina Panthers could be forced to explore the possibility of finding a free agent that could provide competition for or replace Sam Darnold in 2022.
Good quarterbacks with no baggage seldom become available in free agency. Looking at the signal-callers set to hit the market, they are full of backup-caliber players and reclamation projects that the Panthers could do without.
Perhaps Mitchell Trubisky would be the best option, which isn’t saying much. And there could be increased competition for the former No. 2 overall selection now that Russell Wilson has been traded.
This situation is an absolute mess right now. In all honesty, those in power within the Panthers only have themselves to blame for a series of rash decisions and getting too cute for their own good.
Had the Panthers not picked up Darnold’s fifth-year option with a guaranteed $18.85 million, it’s a different discussion. But looking to the factors that should evolve following Wilson’s sensational move to the Denver Broncos, the pressure is well and truly on.
