Jimmy Garoppolo could be part of a Christian McCaffrey trade

Jimmy Garoppolo isn’t the best choice for the Carolina Panthers at quarterback. But he might just be their only realistic option, in all honesty.

Any trade involving Christian McCaffrey and Garoppolo is going to be complicated due to the salaries and both players’ injury histories. From the Carolina Panthers’ perspective, you absolutely cannot trade the Stanford product for the veteran signal-caller alone.

Any trade that brings Garoppolo to Carolina is going to have to include other assets. McCaffrey in the San Francisco 49ers rushing attack has a chance to be one of the best players in football if he can stay healthy.

Carolina has to keep this in mind when considering any trade with San Francisco. Best case scenario – the Panthers are able to acquire or draft a quarterback outside of McCaffrey’s potential trade and send their star running back outside the NFC.

If, however, they are left with no other options, McCaffrey being dealt for Garoppolo and other assets wouldn’t be a terrible move.

Garoppolo may have his turnover issues but he is a proven winner that is a far superior passer to any of Carolina’s current options. He is an upgrade over any free agent acquisitions the Panthers could sign and the most likely trade target for a team that needs to find an answer at the position.
