Carolina Panthers could use Rodger Saffold

There are plenty of cap casualties coming across the league as teams look to comply with the new financial regulations. That being said, it was something of a surprise to see the Tennessee Titans cut ties with prolific offensive lineman Rodger Saffold ahead of time this week.

The former second-round pick has enjoyed a productive NFL career and has one Pro Bowl selection to his name. Saffold is still playing at a high level despite his advancing years and would be an immediate upgrade for the Carolina Panthers if this scenario comes to fruition.

Saffold turned out in 853 snaps for the Titans in 2021, giving up two sacks and conceding five penalties to secure a respectable 68.8 grade from Pro Football Focus. One potential stumbling block facing the Panthers is where they are at as a franchise, which could lead the veteran to another team with a better chance of becoming a contender.

Carolina has to think big regarding offensive line reinforcements in the coming days. Relying on underperforming players and reclamation projects is no longer an option and if Saffold is receptive, then they should do all they can to bring the player on board.

Saffold has the experience and impressive production that could make an immediate impact in Carolina. The stakes are high in 2022, so acquiring individuals of this magnitude is absolutely imperative if the Panthers wish to make a bigger splash.
