5 tight ends the Carolina Panthers could sign in 2022 free agency
Carolina Panthers could target Gerald Everett
What a time to leave your former team.
Gerald Everett spent the beginning of his career with the Los Angeles Rams before deciding to take his chances elsewhere on the Seattle Seahawks during 2021 free agency. His old employers went on to lift the Super Bowl and the tight end is now facing an uncertain future once again.
He took a one-year, $6 million ‘prove-it’ deal to bet on himself for a bigger, long-term contract. Russell Wilson’s injury may have hurt the overall offensive numbers, but Everett proved he is a capable starter when the recently traded signal-caller was under center.
From Week 10 on, Everett ranked 12th among tight ends in targets and seventh in catches. At almost 28 years old, the former South Alabama stud has many good years ahead of him, bringing toughness and catch capabilities any head coach can appreciate.
Consistency is the key.
Everett has historically been hot for a game then cold the next. Something that could put a team like the Carolina Panthers off given their need to win right now.
If the right coach can continue to build his skillset and on-field capabilities to always be a threat, we may see more career highs from Everett soon and not look at his time in Seattle as a one-season outlier.
Keep in mind that Scott Fitterer has the Seattle connection. Although he was gone before Everett was signed.
