3 reasons the Carolina Panthers should bring in Colin Kaepernick
By Nick Halden
Colin Kaepernick has not given up on playing in the NFL again, and the Carolina Panthers could do with bringing in the quarterback for a look.
The Carolina Panthers are desperate to find an answer at the quarterback position only a year after trading for Sam Darnold. The deal is looking increasingly awful, though one could argue the decision to pick up his fifth-year option was even worse and now the organization is stuck with the USC product and without a clear answer at the position.
Cam Newton was brought back with disappointing results and P.J. Walker certainly isn’t starting caliber, leaving the Panthers with limited choices. Having just spent draft capital to acquire Darnold it is hard to believe Carolina would risk a swing and miss yet again despite the constant speculation linking the team with Deshaun Watson.
The better decision is to use the draft and free agency to attempt to build around what is a solid roster. Drafting a quarterback and signing a veteran, allowing both new additions to compete during the offseason is the best option on the table if the Panthers want to remove Darnold entirely from the equation.
It has been a long time since Colin Kaepernick has been in the league. However, there isn’t any reason to think at his age he couldn’t be brought back up to speed, and judging by a recent workout video, he hasn’t called it a day regarding his aspirations.
Kaepernick is a talented player who would fit well with Carolina for these three surprising reasons.
