Colin Kaepernick deserves another shot in this league

Putting the politics aside and simply looking at Colin Kaepernick the football player, there is no reason he still shouldn’t be in this league. He is far too talented to not have been given another shot.

The Carolina Panthers are the perfect situation for Kapernick to step back into the NFL and be given an opportunity. But being away from the game for so long does make this a complex situation.

Allow him to come in and compete with a draft pick and Sam Darnold for the starting role. The worst that can happen is he has lost a step and isn’t able to outplay his competition.

In the best-case scenario, the Panthers find their starting quarterback in the short-term, allowing them to compete in a very weak NFC South.

Kaepernick has thrown 72 touchdowns compared to 30 interceptions, adding in 13 rushing scores and 2,300 career rushing yards. He is a playmaker who helped to elevate a San Francisco 49ers team all the way to a Super Bowl before losing to an impressive Baltimore Ravens.

Giving Kaepernick another shot doesn’t mean handing him the job. It means bringing him to Carolina and allowing him to truly push other quarterback options.

What can it hurt to bring Kaepernick in for the preseason and give him a chance he deserves?
