3 reasons the Carolina Panthers should bring in Colin Kaepernick
By Nick Halden
Colin Kaepernick would bring excitement to a boring Carolina Panthers team
For better or worse, if the Carolina Panthers sign Colin Kaepernick they will become an NFL story and box office television. The NFL is a business at the end of the day and signing the signal-caller is both good for the team and good for business.
Jersey sales, fan interest, and NFL attention will follow if the Panthers decide to sign Kaepernick. Something that team owner David Tepper would undoubtedly love after so much bad press under Matt Rhule’s tenure.
While Carolina shouldn’t make the decision based on that fact alone, combined with Kaepernick’s talent and experience at the position it is worth the gamble to bring him into camp. Whether the player has passed the point of no return among league circles is another matter.
Even if the Panthers draft a quarterback, competition would be a great thing in case the rookie isn’t ready to start right away. And it doesn’t appear as if many of this upcoming class will eventually become Day 1 starters.
Providing a bit of urgency is a great move. Even in the worst-case scenario, Kaepernick can compete with Sam Darnold for the job and the Panthers wouldn’t lose anything by at least having a closer look.
The Panthers or anyone else signing Kaepernick seems highly unlikely. But it is a move the team should strongly consider.
