4 Panthers defenders that could benefit from Deshaun Watson trade
By Luke Gray
Which Carolina Panthers defenders could stand to benefit if the team manages to acquire Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson via trade?
It’s the story that just will not go away. The current offseason has seen no reduction in the talk of owner David Tepper’s almost obsession with bringing Deshaun Watson, who was cleared of criminal charges relating to sexual assault allegations and could result in a long-awaited trade in the not-too-distant future.
It’s important to not brush over these allegations as they are clearly a serious matter. The signing of Watson could alienate a portion of the Carolina Panthers fanbase and with the team’s chequered history in terms of Jerry Richardson, Tepper would be well pressed to tread lightly in the matter.
According to Jonathon Alexander of the Charlotte Observer, the Houston Texans are asking for three first-round picks, another pick, and a young player or two, with Jeremy Chinn, Derrick Brown, Brian Burns and even Jaycee Horn mentioned.
This screams of desperation from the Panthers to gut a talented defense that made some strides in 2021, undoing a lot of good work the front office has done in drafting these young players over the last two seasons.
However, if the Panthers do end up getting their man, here are four current Carolina defenders that might benefit from Watson’s arrival.
