4 free-agent replacements for Carolina Panthers OLB Haason Reddick
Carolina Panthers could target Jadeveon Clowney
Jadeveon Clowney is another well-known veteran and produced last season for the Cleveland Browns. The former first-round pick signed a one-year deal worth $8 million and totaled nine sacks, helping an already talented defense.
Clowney would be a good addition to the Carolina Panthers if Haason Reddick takes his chances elsewhere. He would be a significant help to young players such as Brian Burns, Daviyon Nixon, and Derrick Brown, with the former South Carolina stud possessing the versatility to play almost anywhere across the defensive front.
He would not be cheap, obviously. But Clowney adds a lot to Carolina’s defense and could be interested in making a return to the area where he took the college football world by storm.
Realistically speaking, the Panthers have little chance of keeping Reddick around if he gets offered in the region of $15-17 million per year from a team needing pass-rushing assistance. Clowney would certainly help in that regard, but his talents might be better suited to a three-technique on the interior at this stage of his career.
Nevertheless, it wouldn’t hurt the Panthers should give Clowney a call. But they can ill-afford to get one or two moves wrong during a critical offseason period.
