Frankie Luvu – Carolina Panthers OLB

Although there have been some notable players leaving the Carolina Panthers, the organization made a brilliant move by extending Frankie Luvu to a two-year deal. The outside linebacker was an absolute sensation following his free-agent arrival from the New York Jets and with Haason Reddick no longer around, there appears to be a clear path for the Washington State product to earn a starting job.

Luvu was a high-impact player on defense and special teams last season, so tying him down was a no-brainer. He might not come with the devastating pass-rushing traits of Reddick, but the energetic player has a knack for being around the football consistently and was a big play waiting to happen in 2021.

It’s a fantastic story where Luvu is concerned. There were some who questioned whether or not the player would even make the team when he was signed, but he quickly established himself as a key piece on the depth chart and performed well above expectations.

This is Luvu’s big chance to shine. Carolina will need others to step up and make a contribution, but they also need more from a player who will count $3.48 million against the salary cap in 2022.

Luvu has infectious enthusiasm and playmaking prowess in equal measure. Hopefully, he can build on this positive momentum from an expected starting role next time around.
