3 stumbling blocks that could prevent Panthers trade for Deshaun Watson
By Dean Jones
What stumbling blocks remain as the Carolina Panthers await to hear whether they have been successful in trading for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson?
Another day passes without a formal conclusion in the Deshaun Watson saga as yet. The Carolina Panthers met with the Houston Texans quarterback on Monday evening and emerged from it in a confident mood, according to multiple reports, but there is growing interest from teams across the league regarding one of the best signal-callers in the business.
Carolina has perhaps been the only team that’s stuck to their guns where Watson is concerned. Even when most of the league turned their back on the former first-round pick – and with good reason – the Panthers remained steadfast in their belief he was the man to lead the organization back to prominence.
Watson will not face any criminal charges relating to some serious sexual misconduct allegations. There are still some civil cases that need to resolve, so it all depends on how these play out regarding a possible suspension from the league to start the 2022 campaign.
The Panthers cannot do anymore. They have made the Texans an astronomical offer and got the opportunity for a sit down with Watson to state their case as to why the Clemson product should pick Carolina as his new home.
Those in power might be confident. But here are three major stumbling blocks that remain before a trade that will shake the NFL to its foundations can occur.
