Carolina Panthers could reach for Kenny Pickett
As stated previously, this year’s batch of college quarterbacks come with their fair share of concerns. But that won’t stop the Carolina Panthers from taking a future franchise signal-caller if they feel it will benefit them long-term.
One name that is constantly being linked with the Panthers might fit the bill. Kenny Pickett is regarded as the most pro-ready of all the prospects at the position this year and a sensational 2021 campaign at Pittsburgh has seen the player enter first-round consideration as a result.
Pickett is accurate, mobile in the pocket, and has enough in the way of arm strength to potentially become a productive NFL starter. However, it did take him a while to get going in college and his ceiling might be all that high compared to others entering the league this year.
Matt Rhule has long been a fan of Pickett and got a commitment from the player during his time at Temple. The next level is obviously a completely different animal and the Panthers would need instant production given their need to turn things around in a critical third season under the beleaguered head coach.
This would be a feast or famine move. One that would ultimately determine whether Rhule will be in his job long-term or looking for alternative employment when the 2022 season comes to a conclusion.
