Carolina Panthers could roll the dice on a free-agent

These are troubling times for the team’s fanbase. They are getting pretty tired of how things are being run within the Carolina Panthers and their clear willingness to alienate them further by trading for Deshaun Watson could leave many supporters past the point of no return with this beleaguered franchise.

David Tepper preached about how winning is all that matters when he bought the Panthers from Jerry Richardson. Big talk and actually coming through are two very different things in the NFL and this is something the billionaire is finding out to his cost.

Carolina does have options. But at least from a playing standpoint, they won’t be anything like the quality Watson would have brought even if there are some significant character concerns that were obviously ignored throughout the last year by Tepper and others.

Gambling on a free agent such as Marcus Marioita, Jameis Winston, or someone else represents the last throw of the dice for Matt Rhule, who is paying the price for past failings and not drafting a quarterback over his first two seasons in the league.

This is a complete mess that was brought on themselves. How they come out of their current predicament in the weeks and months ahead is sure to come with franchise-altering ramifications and it’s hard to remember a time when morale has been lower.
