4 critical observations from Deshaun Watson spurning the Panthers
By Dean Jones
What are some critical observations to take from Deshaun Watson finally ending speculation linking him with a trade to the Carolina Panthers?
After what seems like an age, Deshaun Watson finally dismissed the Carolina Panthers as a potential trade destination in preference for the Cleveland Browns in a sensational U-turn. The quarterback won’t come up against the team that’s coveted him for more than a year rather than become their next great hope, which was expected as the Atlanta Falcons looked primed to seal the deal before a late change of heart.
To say this is a blow would be a major understatement. But not guaranteeing Watson’s third and fourth year seems to have been the biggest factor behind the Panthers falling out of the running, according to multiple reports.
There is life without Watson. However, with Tom Brady coming out of retirement for one more shot at glory with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it might be some time before we see Carolina enter legitimate playoff contention.
Watson’s arrival wouldn’t have gone down well with large sections of the fanbase in any case. This pursuit indicates Tepper cares more about winning than what the paying consumer thinks, which further distances the owner from the supporters he drank beer with and immersed himself in upon buying the franchise from Jerry Richardson.
It’s all a big mess, in all honesty. Here are four critical observations from Carolina’s failed trade attempts for the former Clemson stud.
