3 key takeaways from Panthers WR D.J. Moore’s contract extension

D.J. Moore has confidence in the Carolina Panthers
There hasn’t been much to shout about for the Carolina Panthers since D.J. Moore was drafted. That isn’t the wide receiver’s fault, obviously, but the player could be forgiven for thinking long and hard about what the future held heading into his fifth season.
This contract extension not only rewards Moore for his exceptional production in difficult circumstances. But it is also a strong indicator that the player remains confident that the Panthers can finally start going in the right direction.
Moore penning his new deal has given everybody a lift at just the right time. There was a growing sense of frustration about what transpired with Deshaun Watson and some key veteran pieces leaving for pastures new, but getting their primary pass-catcher tied down long-term has galvanized the fanbase and was swiftly followed by two outstanding pickups in punter Johnny Hekker and offensive lineman Bradley Bozeman.
However, now is the time for the Panthers to repay Moore’s faith in them. It’s been a quietly good free agency period so far, but more is needed if the team wants to stand any chance of pushing for the postseason during a tricky-looking schedule in 2022.
Having Moore around will certainly aid their cause. It’s been a rough ride of late, but the receiver clearly feels like he can achieve his career objectives in Carolina.
And make no mistake, that is a solid foundation from which to build.
