Carolina Panthers could target Billy Turner

The Carolina Panthers have already strengthened their offensive line interior early in free agency with the signings of Austin Corbett and Bradley Bozeman. These two individuals should instantly transform the team’s fortunes both against the run and in pass protection, but there could be another move considering the quality of options still on the market.

Carolina could decide to hold firm with what they have for now in the hope Brady Christensen and Deonte Brown can make the necessary improvements. But they do have the cap space to sign a prominent veteran as well as potentially acquire a talented college prospect during the 2022 NFL Draft.

If free agency is an avenue the Panthers explore for a third time, then Billy Turner is someone of interest. The gifted guard has shone over his nine-year career in the league that’s spanned three teams, with the North Dakota State product’s level of performance for the Green Bay Packers in 2021 proof that he could offer something to the Panthers if the lineman ended up in Carolina.

Turner gave up three sacks and conceded four penalties from 849 snaps to secure a creditable 66.2 grade from Pro Football Focus. If nothing else, the former third-round selection would represent a strong upgrade on depth pieces such as Dennis Daley providing the financial package is right for all parties.

The Panthers could do far worse than look in Turner’s direction. But whether they are done focusing on their interior protection is the biggest question regarding this potential signing.
