Rashard Higgins brings urgency to the Carolina Panthers
If Rashard Higgins falls flat on his face with the Carolina Panthers next season, then it’s hard to make a convincing argument regarding his long-term prospects in the NFL. Fortunately for the wide receiver, urgency is something that’s also enveloping the organization after three-straight five-win seasons that leaves head coach Matt Rhule on the brink if he cannot turn things around quickly.
Added competition in the wideout room is needed. Perhaps Robby Anderson became complacent last time out after his new contract, with Terrace Marshall Jr. and Shi Smith also heading into Year 2 of their professional careers with a lot to prove.
Jobs and futures are on the line. Not only for Higgins but for most within Carolina’s locker room and especially if Rhule is removed from the equation after the 2022 campaign.
This extra motivation should be all Higgins and the Panthers need to stake a better claim. The talent is there providing an upgrade is somehow found at quarterback, but pushing each other to be better is equally as important when competitive action begins.
There isn’t much in the way of financial commitment where Higgins is concerned. But this represents a tremendous opportunity for the player to prove he was a product of his environment last season and the lack of production had nothing to do with his overall trajectory.
