Panthers 2022 NFL mock draft: Needs shift after Week 1 of free agency
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers select Travon Walker
This would certainly be a shock to many considering the needs elsewhere. But if Travon Walker is still on the board by this point, the Carolina Panthers should think long and hard about taking the explosive defensive end.
Walker was a key figure during Georgia’s memorable national championship success in 2021. He is a ferocious force flying off the edge that resulted in six sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss throughout the campaign.
The stats only tell half the story where Walker is concerned. He can make his presence felt at the defensive end spot and also has the frame to impact proceedings as a three-technique at the next level should the opportunity arise.
The prospect has out-of-this-world athleticism that can take over any game at the drop of a hat. Walker needs to add more pass-rushing moves to his arsenal in the pros and when he does, someone is going to have a human wrecking ball on their hands.
Carolina lost Haason Reddick in free agency when the player signed for the Philadelphia Eagles. Even though Marquis Haynes was brought back, they need another young talent that can form a prolific partnership with Brian Burns on the defensive front.
Walker might just fit the bill. This selection becomes even more realistic if the Panthers can get themselves a starting left tackle in free agency.
