What are some big observations the Carolina Panthers can take from Kenny Pickett’s impressive pro day showcase ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft?

All eyes were on Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett as the projected first-round selection strutted his stuff in front of leading NFL figures during his pro day. The Carolina Panthers are obviously on the lookout for an upgrade at the position after Sam Darnold failed to make the most out of his big chance, which was a critical blow to the team’s chances of finding some stability under center and held them back in a big way last season.

Pickett emerged from nowhere to become a college star in 2021. Although he is older than most prospects entering the league, he does appear the most pro-ready prospect this year and the Panthers need immediate assistance given what’s at stake for head coach Matt Rhule following two successive five-win campaigns.

There is an obvious connection between Pickett and Rhule from their college days. The signal-caller has also drawn rave reviews from general manager Scott Fitterer during his media availability on two occasions this offseason.

With this in mind, here are four big takeaways the Panthers can take from Pickett’s eye-catching pro-day showing.

Carolina Panthers made a point of checking Kenny Pickett’s hand size

One of the more bizarre scenes from Kenny Pickett’s pro-day was those in attendance from the Carolina Panthers calling the quarterback over to examine his hand size. This is one of the main talking points regarding the player, who gripped the football in front of Scott Fitterer, Matt Rhule, and Ben McAdoo before also demonstrating the double-jointed thumb and how it might impact his chances at the next level.

It was a little strange to do this in public. But the Panthers were clearly happy with what they saw judging by the videos that circulated on social media immediately after.

Pickett’s hands actually measured bigger at his pro day than the NFL Scouting Combine. Whether this will have an impact on where he is drafted is another matter entirely.
