Carolina Panthers sent a full-court press

The Carolina Panthers have long been linked to Kenny Pickett this offseason.

On Monday, they officially showed their hand.

According to the team’s website, no fewer than eight members of the coaching staff and the team’s front office made their way to Pittsburgh to see Pickett in the flesh. These included Matt Rhule, Scott Fitterer, Ben McAdoo, Dan Morgan, and quarterbacks’ coach Sean Ryan among others.

This was the biggest indicator yet that the Panthers are seriously thinking about taking Pickett at No. 6 overall. But there are some more intriguing prospects to evaluate throughout the week before those in power start deciding which avenue to go down.

It’s not hard to see why the Panthers are enamored with Pickett. However, this should not detract from what a major gamble this is when one considers how long it took the signal-caller to come to life in the college ranks.

McAdoo’s influence in all this cannot be understated. The new offensive coordinator has a strong reputation for evaluating college quarterbacks successfully and even wanted the New York Giants to select Patrick Mahomes before they went in a different direction.

This should provide Carolina’s fanbase with at least some comfort after so much flawed pro personnel evaluation at the position under Rhule. If McAdoo decides Pickett is the right guy over someone like Malik Willis, then that should be enough to provide confidence.
