Kenny Pickett was flawless in front of the Carolina Panthers

As pro days go, it’s always the final chance to change perceptions in an environment prospects are familiar within. Kenny Pickett has produced a strong series of performances at the Senior Bowl and NFL Scouting Combine before his big day, so this was merely the icing on the cake after a flawless demonstration of his throwing ability, mobility in and out of the pocket, as well as getting the opportunity to speak with key personnel to further enhance his claims.

There’s no doubt the Carolina Panthers left very impressed by Pickett, who has lit up Bank of America Stadium before following a sensational performance in the 2021 ACC Championship game against Wake Forest. A contest that Matt Rhule and Scott Fitterer attended.

While taking Pickett just one season after Carolina passed up Justin Fields and Mac Jones would be controversial, it’s something that fans should get used to. He is clearly high on their shortlist of options and if the front office can acquire a veteran left tackle in free agency before the draft, then it all but guarantees the Panthers will end up taking a signal-caller at No. 6.

This is a franchise-altering call to make and one that could determine whether or not Rhule will still be head coach beyond the 2022 season. Pickett has all the intangibles needed to make a real go of things at the next level, but there are concerns his ceiling might not be all that high due to age and his current stage of development.

One could make a strong case, either way. But the chances of Pickett landing in Carolina are likely to be higher now than they’ve ever been.
