What are some big observations the Carolina Panthers can take from Ole Miss quarterback prospect Matt Corral’s pro day this week?

A frantic period of evaluation for the Carolina Panthers continued on Wednesday when Matt Corral took the field for his long-awaited pro day. The Ole Miss product has been something of a forgotten prospect compared to Malik Willis and Kenny Pickett, which is down in no small part to an ankle injury suffered during the Rebels’ bowl game that required crutches and significant rehabilitation.

This meant Corral was unable to participate at the NFL Scouting Combine, which has seen his hopes of being the first signal-caller selected take a hit. However, all hope is not lost just yet and one could make an argument that his production against high-quality opposition is head and shoulders above anything else entering the league this year.

Carolina has made its intentions clear. They want to move on from Sam Darnold after a disastrous 2021 season, but which way those in power are going to go is still undetermined.

Without further ado, here are four big observations the Panthers can take from Corral’s pro day.

Matt Corral’s health should not concern the Carolina Panthers

Much has been made of Matt Corral’s ankle problem and how it might impact his draft stock. However, the signal-caller certainly looked like he was well on the road to recovery, even though conditioning and timing were issues due to a lack of practice time.

While ankle complications do tend to flare up more than most, Corral is young enough to not let this bother him too much moving forward. If everything checks out during his medical assessments, then he should be right on track for first-round consideration.

The Carolina Panthers shouldn’t have to worry about Corral’s health. But whether that’s enough for them to pull the trigger is a completely different conversation.
