Cam Newton would be a great mentor

Cam Newton has never been in a position of mentorship for a young quarterback. If the Carolina Panthers decided to re-sign him, he would be a great role model for whoever else the franchise could draft between now and the new season.

As proved by Bill Belicheck’s quote, Newton connects with everyone on the team. There is no doubt the former No. 1 overall selection and any young quarterback Carolina brings in would gel together nicely.

Not only that, but Newton’s work ethic and his drive to win will transfer from him to any young players on the roster, let alone his fellow quarterbacks.

Malik Willis once attended a Newton 7-on-7 football camp while in high school. And it’s clear that the Liberty product idolizes him.

The two of them have a prior relationship, which could end up being the deciding factor behind both scenarios. Drafting and then sitting Willis for a year behind Newton almost makes too much sense and the young signal-caller would benefit enormously from his hero’s presence in the same room.

In conclusion, the Panthers would benefit in the short term from signing Newton. And they would also gain an advantage in the long run.

The team and any young quarterback they bring in would have success in the 2022 season and beyond with Newton under center. A move to re-sign the player makes all the sense in the world but whether the Panthers will do this is another matter.
