Desmond Ridder remains a boom or bust prospect

At the end of the day, pro days do very little to alter perceptions when it comes to quarterbacks. Other positional groups can boost their stock based on athletic performance, but the film is what counts most for those under center.

Desmond Ridder has a lot going for him, obviously. But he is a stereotypical boom or bust prospect that must have realistic expectations coming out of the gate.

There are some accuracy issues and as stated previously, decision-making and pre-snap reading also need considerable work. Ridder’s arm is sufficient, but nowhere near elite and certainly compared to the likes of Malik Willis, who wowed everyone in attendance at his pro day and could fo as high as No. 2 overall to the Detroit Lions.

Considering the real need to win now for the Carolina Panthers, drafting Ridder might not be a realistic option considering their need for an immediate upgrade. That’s not to say he wouldn’t be a productive professional at some stage, but that won’t be in Week 1.
