Christian McCaffrey has a new RB2 to work alongside

Things cannot continue as they have been where Christian McCaffrey is concerned. The Carolina Panthers went to pieces without the player last season and keeping him on the field as much as possible is of paramount importance ahead of a critical third year for head coach Matt Rhule.

Finding a power running back that could gain the hard yards was a big need for Carolina this offseason. Fortunately, they wrapped this up early in free agency with the signing of D’Onta Foreman, who filled in for the Tennessee Titans extremely well in 2021 after Derrick Henry went down with a long-term injury.

Foreman is a bruising back with tremendous contact balance. He can bang in-between the tackles, can assist in the passing game, and is also a big play waiting to happen once space arrives.

Of all the things done to assist McCaffrey this offseason, acquiring Foreman might just be the best of the bunch when it’s all said and done. If both players form a productive tandem and hit the ground running, then huge things could be in the team’s immediate future.

In truth, the Panthers couldn’t have done anymore to put McCaffrey in a better position. If it’s not enough, then the organization could take the difficult decision of moving on entirely from the former first-round pick this time next year.
