3 teams that could trade above the Carolina Panthers for top QB prospect
By Dean Jones
Which NFL teams could potentially trade up in the 2022 draft in pursuit of landing one of the top quarterback prospects entering the league this year?
The Carolina Panthers spent the better part of last week taking in some pro days across the country surrounding quarterbacks that are hoping to hear their name called early during the 2022 NFL Draft. Some influential figures within the organization watched Kenny Pickett, Malik Willis, and Matt Corral get put through their paces, with front office staff also traveling to Cincinnati to witness Desmond Ridder in the flesh.
General manager Scott Fitterer also spoke at great length about the importance of having a rookie quarterback and building around them on a team-friendly contract. This was another sign that the Panthers could finally pull the trigger on a college prospect under center in 2022 despite almost every individual coming with some serious flaws.
Teams are always desperate to improve their options at the most important position on the field. The Panthers definitely fall into this category, but passing on someone like Evan Neal or Ikem Ekwonu if they drop out of the top five will be extremely difficult considering the need for an elite left tackle.
There is a chance that the Detroit Lions take a signal-caller at No. 2 overall. This would only set panic through the roof with other teams looking to bolster their options with a preferred target.
With little in the way of draft capital, the Panthers will likely hold firm at No. 6 overall and hope for the best. But here are three organizations that could end up making a bold trade above them to select a quarterback in 2022.
