Panthers 2022 draft scouting report: Kyle Hamilton is an athletic freak
Will the Carolina Panthers bolster their defense during the 2022 NFL Draft with the selection of Notre Dame’s freakishly gifted safety Kyle Hamilton?
Scott Fitterer and the Carolina Panthers have done a good job this offseason filling holes on the roster. One of them is the free safety spot on defense with the addition of Xavier Woods from the Minnesota Vikings.
Jeremy Chinn seems to be the starting strong safety at the moment. However, the former second-round pick out of Southern Illinois has proven to be a versatile defender who can play different positions.
Adding Kyle Hamilton, who has the frame, football instincts, and athletic ability to shift around the defense, would give defensive coordinator Phil Snow options to run different looks and schemes. It might also see Chinn become a permanent factor at the second level.
Drafting Hamilton would not be from a need, but rather because of his ceiling as an NFL prospect and his position-less ability on defense. The luxury of adding the Notre Dame product on an already very-athletic defense would give opposing offenses nightmares to gameplan against.
Other options fit the Panthers‘ needs better, but Hamilton should garner serious consideration at the No. 6 overall selection if he makes it this far. He has slipped on some draft boards recently, but at its height, his stock was inside the top-five and even as high as No. 1 overall.
It is time for a deeper dive at Hamilton in our scouting report. How he would fit on the Panthers, and what kind of player he might become.
