3 reasons the Carolina Panthers should not dismiss Sam Howell

Carolina Panthers should not ignore Sam Howell’s 2020 season
Sam Howell’s production last season wasn’t terrible by any stretch of the imagination. One could even argue that it was better than anticipated when so many of his primary playmakers bolted for the NFL.
Missing the likes of Dyami Brown, Dazz Newsome, Michael Carter, and Javonte Williams clearly had an impact on Howell, who was forced to do more in the running game than in previous years. This is something that’s impacted his draft stock based on consensus projections, but examining the player’s 2020 performance is something that might tip the scales in his favor.
Howell was absolutely sensational for North Carolina, completing 68.1 percent of his passes for 3,586 passing yards, 30 touchdowns, seven interceptions, and a passer efficiency rating of 179.1 as a result of his outstanding efforts.
This came with just 146 rushing yards and five touchdowns on the ground. Compare that to the 846 rushing yards and 11 scores attained in 2021, it’s not hard to see just how much Howell had to adapt his game.
There are some kinks in Howell’s game to work out if he wants to succeed at the next level. He is a little undersized and does have some footwork issues in the pocket to navigate, but if the prospect can get back to the player we all saw light it up for the Tar Heels during his sophomore season, then the Carolina Panthers could potentially acquire a polished performer given their skill position talent.
