Carolina Panthers would miss out on an elite prospect

As stated previously, there aren’t many major holes left to fill for the Carolina Panthers after making some impressive signings over free agency so far. They could use an elite left tackle, an upgrade on Sam Darnold at quarterback, and perhaps another edge rusher following the departure of Haason Reddick, but there appears to be a much more balanced roster for a new-look coaching staff to work with next season.

One could argue these are the three most important positions. Something that could bring significant complications to the Panthers if they are not filled effectively by the time competitive action rolls around in 2022.

Scott Fitterer has long been a fan of taking the best player available and worrying about the rest later. This was evident last year when Carolina went against selecting Justin Fields or Mac Jones, drafting a stud cornerback in Jaycee Horn, instead.

However, the need for a quarterback could lead the Panthers into a more desperate approach this time around. No quarterback is considered worthy enough to be taken so high, but that won’t stop the organization from reaching if they feel it can benefit the franchise.

Doing so is a feast or famine decision. It would also prevent the Panthers from drafting a game-changing player in another key area of need if someone like Kyle Hamilton, Evan Neal, Ikem Ekwonu, or Kayvon Thibodeaux fell into their laps.

This is the bed they have made for themselves after two big misses in Teddy Bridgewater and Darnold. Another false move will come with steep consequences.
