Carolina Panthers could sign Laurent Duvernay-Tardif
Although the Carolina Panthers have picked up some impressive reinforcements to their offensive line, it could still use a little facelift in terms of depth. Much will obviously depend on how high the organization is on the likes of Ikem Ekwonu, Charles Cross, and Evan Neal at No. 6 overall, but there is a high chance at least two will be gone by the time they’re on the clock.
That means the Panthers must be prepared for every eventuality. Signing an experienced figure such as Laurent Duvernay-Tardif would be beneficial and could also allow the organization to move forward with Brady Christensen at left tackle if they end up missing out on the elite lineman atop the draft.
Duvernay-Tardif joined the New York Jets in 2021 after missing the entire 2020 campaign to join the fight against COVID-19. He previously contributed heavily to the Kansas City Chiefs’ success and is unlikely to cost the earth, which always helps.
If nothing else, Duvernay-Tardif represents an upgrade on current depth chart pieces such as Dennis Daley and Deonte Brown, which will be needed when one considers how many offensive linemen do succumb to injury over the campaign.
This might be nothing more than a fall-back option. But the Panthers would be wise to strike before the draft on veterans they think can help rather than wait around when there is set to be additional competition once the selection process comes to a conclusion.
