Ranking the 9 potential Carolina Panthers starting QB options in 2022

Carolina Panthers could trade for Gardner Minshew
Despite missing big on Sam Darnold last year, the Carolina Panthers have already shown willingness to make another trade if they feel it could benefit the franchise. Something that saw their all-out pursuit of Deshaun Watson that lasted more than a year eventually end in failure and a lot of embarrassment after the Clemson product turned them down in favor of the Cleveland Browns.
That might be a good thing in the long run. But much will depend on what the Panthers end up doing next.
One name that has worked with new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo before hasn’t been mentioned all that much. However, trading for Gardner Minshew might be a possibility if the price is right.
Minshew caught the eye deputizing for Jalen Hurts on the Philadelphia Eagles last season. This led many to believe he could be the subject of some interest from needy teams this offseason.
Although it hasn’t materialized as yet, this is an intriguing short-term option for the Panthers that wouldn’t cost much from a salary-cap standpoint. Minshew would also inspire fans and teammates far more than Sam Darnold has managed to do at any stage.
Trading for a quarterback might not be a good move. But it would allow Carolina to select a franchise left tackle at No. 6 overall depending on how the board plays out.
