Carolina Panthers could draft Malik Willis
There isn’t a quarterback in the 2022 NFL Draft that’s generated more positive momentum than Malik Willis during the evaluation process. The Liberty product has wowed scouts and other influential figures with blistering arm strength, supreme athleticism, and an infectious personality that is sure to make him a fan favorite in no time at all.
Willis is the ultimate feast or famine prospect. There are some concerns when one examines the film, but the traits he possesses normally dictate a team rolling the dice atop the draft and hoping for the best.
Most assessors don’t see Willis as being a Day 1 starter. Even if the Carolina Panthers would undoubtedly need him to get up to speed quickly if they went in this direction.
One also cannot rule out the prospect of Willis being gone by No. 6 overall. Teams like the Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Seattle Seahawks could make daring moves, which is something the Panthers need to be ready for before their own decision is made.
If Willis transitions well and beats out Sam Darnold or whoever else is on the roster, then it won’t be smooth sailing. But it’s also worth remembering that the Panthers have a good running game, impressive pass-catchers, and a much improved offensive line to work behind.
With high risk comes a high reward. However, this is a decision that could cost jobs if it doesn’t work out accordingly.
