Panthers 7-round 2022 NFL mock draft: Dreams come true in Round 1
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers select Evan Neal
- Position: Offensive Tackle
- Height: 6-foot-7 and a half
- Weight: 337 pounds
- Arm Length: 34 inches
- 2021 PFF grade: 85.8
To say this is the dream scenario for the Carolina Panthers would be something of an understatement. But one that is becoming increasingly possible with every passing day according to some respected analysts from across the league.
The consensus two top offensive tackles in this class are Ikem Ekwonu and Evan Neal. With the New York Giants taking so much interest in the former North Carolina State standout during his pro day, a window of opportunity could be open for the Panthers to bring the Alabama product on board if he makes it out of the top five.
Neal is an absolute freak. He has mammoth size and athleticism that defies all normal tendencies, with the left tackle carrying his 337-pound frame exceptionally well for good measure.
There are few, if any, holes in Neal’s game. His blindside protection for the Crimson Tide in 2021 was nothing short of outstanding and this would provide Carolina a bookend tandem with Taylor Moton that they’ve coveted for a long time.
An obvious temptation will be for the Panthers to select a quarterback. But until the left tackle complication gets resolved, it won’t matter who is under center and if Neal is there for the taking, those in power should turn in their card immediately.
