It is time for the Carolina Panthers to officially panic about their complicated quarterback situation after another failed trade in Sam Darnold.

Another offseason, another quarterback dilemma envelops the Carolina Panthers.

A bold trade to acquire Sam Darnold from the New York Jets just didn’t work out. The signal-caller started off well enough, but a drop-off was deeply concerning over the campaign with the same flaws that blighted his college and professional career coming to light once again.

The Panthers are clearly backtracking on their initial belief that Darnold was not the answer. Although there is plenty of smoke and mirrors flying around this time of year ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft.

It would be a big surprise if Darnold wasn’t on the roster in 2022, at the very least. According to the Charlotte Observer, there is also a “strong chance” he’ll be the team’s starter in Week 1.

This is not what fans want to hear. If the reports are correct, it also represents the biggest of gambles from Matt Rhule ahead of a make or break Year 3 for the head coach.

What comes next is uncertain. The Panthers will bring in some additional competition with only P.J. Walker on the roster, but whether that’s from free agency, the trade market or the college ranks has yet to be determined.

Without further ado, here are four reasons why it’s time for the Panthers to start panicking about their quarterback situation.
