Carolina Panthers re-signed Frankie Luvu

Haason Reddick’s departure will be a big loss to the Carolina Panthers. The organization decided to let the stud pass-rusher test the free-agent market despite gaining 11 sacks in 2021, which resulted in the Temple product getting a big-money commitment from the Philadelphia Eagles that his previous employer was unwilling to match.

Consistent players coming off the edge are hard to find and over the last two seasons, Reddick has been among the elite in terms of sacks gained. This leaves a gaping hole opposite Brian Burns and unless Carolina fills it effectively, the complications are there for all to see.

One notable move made that went relatively under the radar was the Panthers extending Frankie Luvu. The former Washington State standout made an unbelievable impression upon arriving from the New York Jets, bringing an energy to the second level and on special teams that even came with an All-Pro vote as a result of his outstanding level of performance.

Luvu’s tireless motor and natural instincts made him the perfect fit for Phil Snow’s scheme. There could be even more to come in 2022 if he earns a starting job as expected.

Getting Luvu tied down nice and early was the right call by the Panthers. Especially considering they’ve lost three core pieces of their front seven in Reddick, DaQuan Jones, and Jermaine Carter.

And who knows, if the player raises his game then Luvu’s current deal will look like chump change compared to his production.
