Which potential targets were the Carolina Panthers smart to eventually stay away from despite speculation throughout the 2022 offseason?

A frantic start to free agency across the league has brought some truly astonishing moves that have completely changed the NFL’s landscape. Whether it’s veteran quarterbacks being traded, elite wide receivers finding new homes, or free-agent figures securing bumper deals, the current offseason has kept everyone on their toes and expecting almost anything on a daily basis.

The Carolina Panthers haven’t really been as brash with their recruitment. But that should not detract from the nice job those in power within the organization have done when it comes to strengthening the team ahead of a hugely important 2022 campaign.

Productive veteran players were signed on relatively cheap deals, which leaves some money back in the event an opportunity presents itself in the coming weeks. That could be by acquiring a premium left tackle from the available free agents on the market or perhaps another trade that could solve all the Panthers’ problems under center.

Obviously, these two core positions need to be sorted out at the earliest possible opportunity if Carolina wants to stand any chance of mounting a fight next season. One could potentially be solved at No. 6 overall in the draft, but that is the only pick the Panthers have in the top-130 which might lead them down an alternative route to find the necessary solution.

There have been some near misses and established players departing, which all come with the territory. But here are four individuals the Panthers were right to stay away from this offseason.
