Which Carolina Panthers players are fortunate to still be around after a busy offseason period for the organization ahead of the 2022 campaign?
Some big decisions have already been made by the Carolina Panthers during an interesting offseason so far. It began with Matt Rhule staying on as head coach, many established coaches getting their marching orders, and some significant playing personnel changes as the organization looks to put the necessary pieces in place for an improved campaign in 2022.
It’s been an encouraging period overall. Perhaps better than many anticipated considering the “lame duck” situation Rhule finds himself in unless substantial improvements come from a results standpoint next time around.
However, if the left tackle and quarterback situations aren’t resolved in a satisfactory fashion, then things could get even more complicated with some outstanding teams on the schedule next season.
Established veterans have moved on. The likes of Cam Newton and Stephon Gilmore are also weighing up their options regarding what comes next in their respective careers.
In this subject, here are five Panthers players who are lucky to still be on the team as the offseason program draws ever closer.
Player No. 1
Michael Jordan – Carolina Panthers OG
There were times during the 2021 season when Michael Jordan looked like a potential long-term starter on the offensive line. The Carolina Panthers picked up the player following his release from the Cincinnati Bengals and even though there were some bright moments, these were matched by some clear failings that plunged his future aspirations with the franchise in doubt.
Jordan avoided the dreaded cut ahead of free agency. But considering how much the Panthers strengthened their interior options with the additions of Bradley Bozeman and Austin Corbett, the former fourth-round pick is far from a guarantee to make the 53-man roster.
The Ohio State product gave up six sacks and conceded five penalties from 705 snaps last season. Production that has to improve if Jordan wants to solidify his status in Carolina.
