5 boom or bust prospects the Carolina Panthers could draft in 2022
By Dean Jones
Which incoming college prospects with boom-or-bust potential could come into consideration by the Carolina Panthers during the 2022 NFL Draft?
The NFL Draft process is sometimes tiresome. And in all honesty, nobody truly knows what’s going on in any given organization outside of the influential figures in charge of making calls they hope will pan out as expected.
Outside of a few every year, there aren’t many sure things when it comes to the draft. Time and time again we see prospects who light it up in college fail to do the same when the standard of competition increases significantly at the professional level – so it’s a crapshoot that can only be assisted by thorough scouting and assessment – and even that might not be enough.
The Carolina Panthers have some huge calls to make. A left tackle would be highly advantageous to their fortunes next season and beyond, but there is also a real temptation to shoot their shot at a potential franchise quarterback if they see fit.
We won’t have to wait much longer for a definitive answer. But here are five boom or bust draft prospects the Panthers might end up taking in 2022.
Prospect No. 1
Carolina Panthers could draft Daniel Faalele
- Offensive Lineman | Minnesota
Judging by where Daniel Faalele is expected to be drafted, the Carolina Panthers would need to acquire some Day 2 capital if they identified the offensive lineman as a prospect of interest. The former Minnesota standout is a mammoth presence that’s generated some significant buzz during the evaluation process, but there remains some doubt as to where he’d be best suited at the next level.
Faalele does appear to be a little slow out of his stance which will undoubtedly be a problem on the edge. His inexperience also makes him a real gamble early on Day 2 or even late in the first round.
Although the Panthers need to find a productive left tackle that could start right away, Faalele might not be the answer. However, if his outstanding physical measurables are developed, then he could end up being an absolute stud.
