5 Panthers players who could be impacted most by 2022 draft picks
By Dean Jones
Which Carolina Panthers players could be impacted most by the organization’s upcoming 2022 NFL Draft selections?
All eyes will shortly be on Las Vegas for the 2022 NFL Draft, which is one of the most important in recent memory for the Carolina Panthers. A strong period of recruitment in free agency left the team needing just one or two quality pieces to improve their hopes of making some noise next season, which is absolutely crucial for Matt Rhule if he wants to avoid further questions about his status as head coach.
This is always an exciting time of year for fans. Evaluations have taken place and favorites emerged, but the Panthers have an abundance of options available at No. 6 overall that only adds to the level of intrigue later this month.
For current members of the roster, this is a worrying time. Incoming college recruits could mean jobs and depth chart positions are on the line, which is often overlooked with the fanfare that usually comes during and shortly after the draft.
With this in mind, here are five Panthers players who could be impacted most by the team’s draft picks in 2022.
Player No. 1
Deonte Brown – Carolina Panthers OG
When the Carolina Panthers selected Deonte Brown in the sixth round out of Alabama last year, he instantly became a player of immense intrigue. The interior offensive lineman dominated almost everybody he came up against in college, but some weight concerns saw him slip from an initial second-round projection way into Day 3.
Sadly for Brown, he was a non-factor as a rookie and did have some trouble keeping his weight down. Something that’s left his overall aspirations in a little doubt despite the lack of quality in this region from a depth perspective.
Carolina signed Bradley Bozeman and Austin Corbett in free agency, which should assist greatly. If the Panthers decide to bring in another talented guard from the college ranks during the draft, then Brown would face a big-time fight for relevancy as a result.
