Which new additions by NFC South rivals should the Carolina Panthers be most concerned about during the 2022 season?

Things have not been dull across the NFC South this offseason. There has been drama everywhere and certain moves might have increased the Carolina Panthers’ chances of making more of a splash providing they get their own house in order beforehand.

Whether it was Sean Payton leaving his coaching role, Tom Brady coming back, Matt Ryan’s trade, or the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes, it’s been hard to keep up and that’s notwithstanding the level of activity within the Panthers since the 2021 campaign came to a conclusion.

Had Brady not come back, this division would have been there for the taking. But that didn’t materialize and the Panthers now have to hope the legendary signal-caller falls off dramatically and they make substantial strides.

With that being said, here are five new NFC South arrivals that Carolina should worry about in 2022.

Carolina Panthers should worry about Lorenzo Carter

  • Defensive End | Signed one-year, $3.5 million deal with the Atlanta Falcons

After losing Dante Fowler Jr. in free agency, it was important that the Atlanta Falcons found another edge rusher capable of doing damage. In Lorenzo Carter, they solidified a problem area with a productive veteran that could outplay his one-year deal when it’s all said and done.

Carter has 14.5 career sacks over four years after joining the New York Giants as a third-round pick out of Georgia. There could be even more to come from the player with increased importance on Atlanta’s depth chart and considering the problems the Carolina Panthers have had on their offensive line over the last two years, this is an individual to offer slight concerns.

The Panthers’ protection should be much better next season. But Carter will still need to be taken care of when Carolina clashes with the Falcons.
