Panthers 2022 draft scouting report: No love for Carson Strong?
By Dean Jones
How would Carson Strong fit on the Carolina Panthers?
- Developmental QB, potential starter over time
The Carolina Panthers are probably going to go in a different direction, which is fine. After all, they can ill-afford another failed gamble at the most important position on the field after what’s transpired over the previous two offseasons under the current regime.
Carson Strong is an enigma. The injury concerns and coming from a smaller program seem to be working against the player, so it remains to be seen just which team will end up taking the plunge.
Obviously, the Panthers are not blessed with much capital over the first two days. They have just one selection in the first 136 and unless those in power trade down from No. 6 or up into the second or third rounds, it will stay that way.
Strong is projected to go anywhere between Rounds 2-4 depending on what mock draft you read. He is set to be a development project for any team taking him on with the potential to evolve into a starter somewhere down the line.
The Panthers are overlooking Strong for two reasons. They need help immediately and aren’t entirely convinced he can become anything more than a serviceable backup, in all honesty.
It would be unwise to write off Strong entirely, even if the Panthers have. The talent is there, but it’s just developing certain areas as the prospect looks to compensate for a distinct lack of athletic attributes.
