4 ways the Carolina Panthers could go at No. 6 in the 2022 NFL Draft
By Dean Jones
What intriguing ways could the Carolina Panthers potentially go from the No. 6 overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft?
What the Carolina Panthers do during the 2022 NFL Draft is going to have significant ramifications for the franchise. There is almost no room for wayward gambles and false moves given what’s at stake for certain individuals within the organization next season and with one pick in the top-136, there is no team under more pressure to get their first-round selection right.
The Panthers have been extremely active throughout the assessment process and are in the midst of bringing in prospects of interest for visits before their big board is finalized. There are a number of players being strongly linked with the team, but nobody really knows for sure outside of Scott Fitterer, Matt Rhule, and team owner David Tepper how things might unfold.
Given the lack of quarterback depth this year, the first-round is extremely unpredictable. Something that gives Carolina multiple options depending on what transpires in front of them.
With this in mind, here are four intriguing ways the Panthers could go from No. 6 overall later this month.
Way No. 1
Carolina Panthers could trade down from No. 6
This is a realistic option for the Carolina Panthers considering their lack of top-end capital. Scott Fitterer has spoken at great length on the importance of having multiple shots to hit the jackpot during the draft crapshoot and having to wait until No. 137 overall just doesn’t seem in keeping with the general manager’s usual approach.
Trading back – providing the Panthers can find a willing suitor – will allow the organization to bolster problem areas from what’s considered to be a really deep draft class. Something that could improve their chances in the short and long term.
Much will depend on what happens in the top five. But this is a scenario that Panthers fans should expect based on Fitterer’s previous history.
