How would Tariq Woolen fit on the Carolina Panthers?

  • Rotational CB, a potential starter in Year 2 or 3

There is absolutely no doubt Tariq Woolen will get drafted higher than he probably deserves due to his outstanding numbers during testing. Some analysts even have him potentially entering first-round discussion when it’s all said and done.

The Carolina Panthers value the sort of athletic traits Woolen has very highly based on their two previous drafts. So it’s no wonder they brought him into the facility to discover more about the player.

With that being said, there are bigger needs to fill at the moment. And the Panthers have just one selection in the top-136 which only complicates matters if those in power wanted to acquire the prospect on Day 2.

Given the options at Carolina’s disposal heading into the 2022 season, Woolen would be nothing more than a rotational cornerback at best with the potential to make a difference on special teams. That’s not to say he won’t be good, but it could take some time and the Panthers have invested plenty in strengthening this unit since Matt Rhule took over as head coach.

If Carolina acquires some additional draft capital by trading down from No. 6 overall or moving up into the second or third round, then Woolen might become a more realistic option.

As it stands, it appears unlikely he’ll end up on the Panthers and especially considering Rhule needs prospects that can help immediately with his job status hanging in the balance.
