Panthers 2022 draft scouting report: Jordan Davis is a game-changer
By Dean Jones
Although the Carolina Panthers have other pressing needs, defensive tackle Jordan Davis is an instant game-changer to consider in the 2022 NFL Draft.
The Carolina Panthers have allocated a ton of high-end draft capital on improving their defense in recent years. This is something that’s brought plenty of quality individuals to the organization and if the offensive side of things had been more productive in 2021, it could have been one of the better performing units anywhere in the league.
Derrick Brown and Jaycee Horn were the Panthers‘ last two first-round selections. Before that, the team acquired stud pass-rusher Brian Burns to give them a solid foundation from which to build moving forward.
Brown has had his moments of struggle. But he is double-teamed more than any other defensive tackle and although the Panthers lost DaQuan Jones to the Buffalo Bills in free agency, the arrival of Matt Ioannidis coupled with expected improvements from Phil Hoskins and Daviyon Nixon have the potential to compensate for the veteran’s departure.
If Carolina also explores the possibility of bolstering their defensive options once again, however unlikely that might be, then it might be worth the organization taking a closer look at Jordan Davis. The mammoth interior lineman was a standout contributor during Georgia’s national championship win and his stock has gone through the roof thanks to exceptional testing throughout the evaluation process.
Even though this appears highly unlikely, we inspected Davis a little closer to see what he could potentially bring to the Panthers in this scenario.
