5 lively outsiders the Carolina Panthers could draft in 2022
By Dean Jones
Which 2022 NFL Draft prospects could emerge as lively outsiders for the Carolina Panthers to consider selecting later this month?
Draft season is always a fascinating time of year. This year, more than any other, with so much unpredictability at the top end due to a lack of standout quarterback prospects.
The Carolina Panthers have to make the right calls throughout. They have just one selection in the top-136 after trading their Day 2 capital in the Sam Darnold and C.J. Henderson deals, which is something they might look to rectify by moving down from No. 6 or surging up if the right opportunity comes along.
It’s becoming a little clearer as to which direction the Panthers might go. Taking a premier left tackle, quarterback, or even a stud pass-rusher are likely scenarios, with the potential of trading down something else that cannot be overlooked.
Carolina’s fanbase will be watching eagerly to see how things play out. Here are five lively outsiders that could emerge as potential Panthers candidates during the draft.
Prospect No. 1
Carolina Panthers could draft Rasheed Walker
- Offensive Tackle | Penn State
There was a time when Rasheed Walker was a first-round candidate after an outstanding start to his Penn State career. This has quietened down somewhat after an inconsistent final season with the Nittany Lions, but hopes remain high the left tackle can become a valuable contributor at the next level.
Walker is solid in pass protection and on running downs. There are concerns about his rigidness becoming a problem against explosive edge rushers in the NFL, but Carolina Panthers offensive line coach James Campen has taken plenty of players like this and turned them into Pro Bowlers throughout his career.
Carolina brought in Walker for a visit. But much will obviously depend on whether or not the organization selects a premier blindside presence at No. 6 overall.
