Carolina Panthers could draft Travon Walker
- Defensive End | Georgia
Finding a productive defensive end opposite Brian Burns is something the Carolina Panthers might also consider early in the 2022 NFL Draft. Letting Haason Reddick walk in free agency was a difficult decision following his 11-sack campaign, but those in power clearly feel that Yetur Gross-Matos and Marquis Haynes are capable of picking up the slack after flashing once again last time around.
Adding a capable edge defender to further bolster the depth chart cannot be ruled out entirely. If Travon Walker is still on the board by No. 6 overall, then a discussion will be had.
Walker is a strong candidate to go No. 1 overall based on recent reports. Although the numbers were not astronomical at Georgia in 2021, his ability to wreak havoc in opposing backfields despite plenty of attention coming his way was impressive, to say the least.
There is every chance Walker can excel at the next level. His size, explosiveness, and power are always highly sought-after by teams across the league and even though Aidan Hutchinson remains the favorite, nobody knows for sure what the Jacksonville Jaguars are going to do and it’s likely to stay that way until the all-important draft night arrives.
Slotting a player with Walker’s upside opposite Burns on the defensive front would be a nightmare for offensive linemen. There would also be plenty of space to operate with Derrick Brown commanding double-teams on the interior.
It would be a shock, but don’t completely dismiss Walker.
