Cam Newton – Former Carolina Panthers QB

Cam Newton‘s status within the Carolina Panthers will never be forgotten if this is the end of his playing days with the organization for good. His bombshell return midway through the 2021 season brought a level of hope not witnessed before under Matt Rhule and although the start was good, it didn’t go according to plan after.

A situation even the former NFL MVP couldn’t resolve.

Newton deserves credit for coming back. He knew the risks in the circumstances, but such was his love for the fans and the franchise, the Auburn product felt it was worth one more shot despite how things ended regarding his first departure.

The Panthers have not ruled out the prospect of Newton returning. He was reportedly offered a contract to be Deshaun Watson’s backup had they managed to pull off the trade, but the situation remains unresolved, and the No. 1 overall selection in 2011 has indicated others have been in touch regarding a potential switch.

This is not the strongest quarterback class in recent memory. Something that might actually work out well for Newton and other veterans looking for new homes in the coming weeks.

It’s the third offseason where Newton is in limbo, so to speak. This has come with some complications from the player’s standpoint, so it would be worth settling in somewhere quickly for a full offseason if he does decide to resume his career.
