Carolina Panthers could draft Malik Willis
- Quarterback | Liberty
Malik Willis is one of the most polarizing prospects in this year’s class. There is no denying the quarterback’s upside, but anyone expecting the Liberty product to come in and start right away would be setting the quarterback up for a fall.
Willis has all the traits that normally ensure one team takes a chance at the top-end of the draft. His arm strength is out of this world and this is further bolstered by exceptional improvisation skills that keep fans on the edge of their seats.
It’s not hard to see how Willis has been influenced by former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton. They play the game with a fun-loving approach, have infectiously positive personalities, and provide fierce competitiveness that teammates gravitate towards.
This could see Willis become alpha within the Panthers and a productive starter over time. But sitting the signal-caller behind a veteran initially while he improves processing and decision-making would be welcome.
A luxury Matt Rhule isn’t exactly able to afford during a crucial third year of his tenure.
Willis is a work in progress, there’s no getting away from that. But he could also become a true star in the NFL if given time and the right fit.
